Container Customization in Pierre, South Dakota

1 min read

A shipping container is a steel box until somebody cuts it, and then it becomes whatever you needed. We modify containers in our own Pierre yard.

What people ask for

Personnel doors so you are not swinging the full cargo doors every time. Windows for daylight and for seeing out. Roll-up doors where forklift access matters. Vents, which are worth more than people expect on a sealed steel box in summer. Shelving and racking built to what you are actually storing. Electrical and lighting. Partition walls splitting one unit into storage at one end and workspace at the other.

Cutting steel properly is the whole job

A container gets its strength from the corrugated walls and the corner castings. Cut an opening carelessly and you have weakened the structure and created an edge that will not stay sound.

Openings need framing and reinforcement around them, and the cut edges need sealing and coating before anything else happens. Otherwise the modification becomes the point where the box starts failing.

That metalwork sits close to what Wheelhouse Auto Body has done in this same yard for twenty-five years, which is a fair part of why we take modification work on rather than sending it elsewhere.

Modify or buy modified

Renting long term and want changes? We can usually accommodate that. Buying outright gives you a free hand, since it is your container to alter.

For a short rental, modification rarely pays. We will say so.

Describe what you need

Call 605-220-9144 and explain the use rather than the specification. Frequently there is a simpler answer than the one people arrive with.
