Temperature is the variable a standard steel box does nothing about. A closed container in direct July sun on the prairie gets considerably hotter than the air outside it, and in January it tracks the cold just as faithfully.

Insulated versus refrigerated

These are two different products and people mix them up constantly.

An insulated container slows the transfer. It moderates the swings and keeps contents away from the extremes, without holding any particular number. Right for paint, adhesives, batteries, bottled product, and anything whose enemy is a hard freeze or an oven.

A refrigerated unit is actively powered and holds a set point. That is what you need for perishables, pharmaceuticals, laboratory material, or equipment with a specified storage range. It needs power at the site, which is worth sorting out before delivery day rather than on it.

Where these come up

Food service needing overflow cold storage through an event or a seasonal peak. Clinics and veterinary practices with product that has a documented range. Contractors storing materials that cannot freeze on a winter build. Growers and processors with a short window and more volume than their own capacity.

Getting the spec right

Tell us the temperature range you actually need, the volume, how long, and what power is available on site. Those four answers determine whether insulated is sufficient or refrigerated is necessary, and the difference in running cost is significant.
